SPY VS. LIE: OUTING VALERIE PLAME AN ACT OF TREASON?

“In January 2002 the CIA asked Joe Wilson, Valerie Plame’s husband, to travel to Niger to confirm the validity of a report of that Iraq had an agreement to purchase Uranium from Niger to be used by Saddam Hussein to manufacture nuclear weapons. Wilson traveled to Niger, met with the former Prime Minister who was the one approached by “an Iraqi businessman” who discussed strengthening trade agreements with Niger. Wilson researched the events and concluded there was nothing there and reported back to the Select Committee on Intelligence that the accusations of a sales agreement between Niger and Iraq was clearly false.
However in January 2003, President George W Bush announced in his State of the Union address, the opposite, with these 16 immortal words; “The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa“. Naturally Wilson was astounded that the President presented this information to the world as fact, even after Wilson had reported almost a year earlier to the Senate Select Intelligence Committee that the story was false.
This bothered Wilson, and on July 6, 2003, Wilson wrote in a New York Times Op-Ed piece that Bush had misrepresented the intelligence and wrongly used it to help justify the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Although several committees including the Butler Report, the Senate Intelligence Commission and the Senate Select Committee on intelligence at various times attempted to disprove Wilson’s conclusions, none were ever able to produce any solid evidence to validate the claims that a sales agreement for Yellow Cake existed between Iraq and Niger, or that it was ever discussed with the former Prime Minister of Niger, Ibrahim Hassane Mayaki. In fact the US State Dept agreed with Wilson, as did the CIA, that the claims were false and thus discredited.
Eight days after writing his Op Ed piece reprimanding the White House for using the discredited information, his wife, and covert CIA operative, Valerie Elise Plame Wilson, was outed as a CIA Covert Operative, in a column in the New York Times titled, “Mission to Niger”.
And just like that, her career as a CIA covert operative, was blown.”
COMMENT: Was she “outed” out of spite or was it just a wayward, random mistake?
Freedom’s Watch Targeting Iran

Global Research — — After successfully holding the line on Congressional support for the surge in Iraq, wealthy Bush backers are turning their attention and money to drumming up support for military action against Iran
If the U.S. undertakes military action against Iran, you can credit such longtime neoconservatives as Norman Podhoretz, William Kristol, Michael Ledeen and the swarm of ideologues buzzing about Washington’s right wing think tanks. You can also credit Pastor John Hagee and his Christians United for Israel, a Christian Zionist outfit with unbending support for Israel. And credit also the billionaire and multimillionaire founders of Freedom’s Watch for helping smooth the way.
Later this month, Freedom’s Watch will sponsor a forum of some 20 experts on “radical Islam” that, according to a front page story in the New York Times, “is expected to make the case that Iran poses a direct threat to the security of the United States.”
The forum is being “organized with the American Enterprise Institute, a Washington, DC-based neoconservative think tank, and it is ‘private,'” John Stauber the Executive Director of the Center for Media and Democracy, told Media Transparency. “The fact that Freedom’s Watch has been discussing it with the New York Times appears to be a great teaser to keep the press interested in who will be there, what will be discussed, etc.”
“This in itself is a public relations ploy; they don’t need to announce a private forum, they can hold one any time they want,” Stauber pointed out. “But they want to keep the organization in the media spotlight and look significant and important from a policy perspective.”
The idea for Freedom’s Watch (FW) first surfaced in March of this year at the winter meeting of the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) in Manalapan, Florida, where Vice President Dick Cheney accused House Democrats of not supporting the troops in Iraq. The RJC, which is credited with shepherding then-Texas Governor George W. Bush on his first tour of Israel in November 1998, is a big-money pro-Israel lobby group that networks Jewish-American neoconservatives, Christian Right leaders and conservatives in Israel.
The Freedom’s Watch “inner circle of strategists and donors are close to Vice President Dick Cheney or held high posts at the White House,” the Associated Press’s Jim Kuhnhenn pointed out in late September.

Papers? I Don’t See Any Papers.
He says he’s ‘pro-disclosure,’ but Bill has kept Hillary’s White House files under wraps.
When author Sally Bedell Smith was researching her new book about Bill and Hillary Clinton‘s White House years, she flew to Little Rock to visit the one place she thought could be an invaluable resource: the new William J. Clinton Presidential
Library. Smith was hoping to inspect records that could shed light on what role the First Lady played in her husband’s administration. But Smith quickly discovered the frustrations of dealing with a library critics call “Little Rock’s Fort Knox.”
An archivist explained to Smith that the release of materials was tightly controlled by the former president’s longtime confidant Bruce Lindsey. Could she look at memos detailing the advice Hillary gave Bill during debates over welfare reform? Smith asked. No, the archivist said, those memos were “closed” to the public because they dealt with “policy” matters. What about any records that show what advice Bill gave his wife about her 2000 U.S. Senate campaign? Those, too, were closed, the archivist said, because they dealt with “political” matters. “He essentially told me I had no chance of getting anything,” says Smith, whose book, “For Love of Politics: Bill and Hillary Clinton, the White House Years,” hits the bookstores this week.
